Written by Nathan Cloud on Friday, 17 Sep 2004.

The First Annual (maybe semi-monthly) Monster Burrito Challenge took place on Friday September 17th, 2004 at Taco Dia in Newington.

Taco Dia, located at 109 Lowry Place in Newington has an open challenge: eat one of their Monster Burritos in 30 minutes or less and you will get a T-Shirt proclaiming your victory, but more importantly you are honored by having your picture taken and added to the wall.

Here is one of Taco Dia's Monster Burritos. Weighing in at about 4 pounds, these babies are something special. Chock full of beans, rice, cheese, lettuce, tomato, salsa, and depending on your preference - chicken, beef, crumbled vegetarian black bean patties or, if you are sassy enough, all of the above.

They are quite delicious.

They look so cute.

And here we have "Hot Eating Action" Dave. Dave was a champ, at the 10 minute mark he was more than 3/4 of the way through his burrito. Me on the other hand, I have no idea where that expression on my face came from.

Though one thing is certain, I am damn good looking. Look at that profile. Hot.

More action.

The eating strategy on the lower right there is brilliant.

[ Click for full size ] It was a tight race between Dave and CJ. Dave did jump out to an impressive lead, but stumbled a little with the last 3/4 of his burrito. CJ on the other hand kept a steady pace and had no problems finishing.

Upon finishing his burrito, CJ found himself a bag of nachos and continued eating.

Bright red and shaking, he dug down deep. It did not look like he enjoyed his last few bites though.

And here is The Winners Circle.
