Tyler Mill
where is the see saw stunts ive been looking for it. over bye the concrete bridge or bye the wood bridge that just resently burned down or bye the blue house off the fire road bye the 2 drop offs
I've seen quite a few older gents parked on the side of the road that leads to the bridge. Usually see them around dusk as I am pedaling out.I am 100% they are trolling for man dates. It's a little freaky.
Worth riding for people past the beginner fire road and trails lots of fun, Im gonna ride it weekly maybe twice or three times till I find something better but for now its right down the street from my job and well worth riding, still gotta explore but what I found so far I like alot... except the hike up the hill from the parking lot lol gotta get a chair lift installed or something.
Haven't seen any homos (they have a big, red "H" on their foreheads, right?), but I did see a sign warning that hunting season is from October to January. Saturday is for hunting, Sunday is for praying and mountain biking.
Ride the hunter-free parks on Saturdays until the late winter, unless you want a drunk with a shotgun turning you into Thanksgiving dinner. I've seen it. They usually eat the bodies to hide the evidence. And apparently we mountain bikers - being concerned with our complexions and using lotion and French milled soap and all - make pretty good "leather" chair covers. Supple, yet rugged.
WATCH FOR HOMOS
Anyone know the hunting season for that area? I see the signs up, but I can't figure out from the DEP web site when I can actually expect hunters. I've noticed lately many cars off the Merrit Pkwy between ex 63 and 64 northbound, so some hunting season must be on somewhere. I know hunters only mean to kill dangerous and/or delicious animals, but they have been known to go out inebriated.
Anyone ever run into hunters at Tyler Mill?
if you go all the way to the back there is a gravity bowl( you ride through a ravine and up the other side) Tylers mill is within 5 minb from my house. when this snow melts PM me to plan a ride.
The New SeeSaw is still there, but it was frozen stuck as of yesterday. I learned this after I rode three quarters up the see saw and it wouldn't swing down. My friends thought that was pretty funny
Richie is talking about the NEW seesaw.. Its a Log ride seesaw.. OLd see saw was removed as it was made of foreign materials..
Just rode there on labor day. All the skinnies and the seesaw are still there.
oh and they have taken out the seesaw and the skinnies
i like tylers mill alot im am a resident of wallingford and i've ben rideing here for 3 years. a great spot
hint. dont turn into veterans park keep going strait untill you reach northford rd take a right and go about 150 ft and you will meet tylers mill road take that till reach a bridge with cement pillars keeping you from driveing in ride in and it gets you to the more technical stuff and with a 1 hour ride you will come out to rout 150 aka woodhouse soccer fields
Almost got hit by a kid on a dirt bike yesterday at Tyler Mill.
Yeah the couple times I went there, I went up in the back trails and it was later on like 6-7pm, nobody was around. Well thats good to know for future refrence!
You can absolutely NOT mountain bike at sleeping giant state park. Supposedly there was a glitch in the rules and you might be able to ride there from sun up to 6am or something like that, but in general, there are so many legal places for us to ride, I always just say lets let the hikers have this place to themselves..
Another great ride in the area is brooksvale.. We do rides there on occasion, some fun stuff iffin you know where to go!!! couple skinnies, drops, rock gardens, even a tree ride..
Does anyone go to Sleeping Giant in Hamden/Wallingford? I have been there a few times, there are a bunch of trails. I think you are allowed to bike there, its a state park. The only reason I ask is that its not on any websites.
There might be a few other log rides that are off the beaten path, you might otherwise not find.. Fo find big bertha, from the parking area by the stream, where the concrete blockers are.. If your in the parking area(room for 2 or 3 cars), look towards the other guardrail, there is a singletrack on the other side.. It goes nowhere, but just get on it and it goes right to BIG BERTHA, and micheline drop (3 footer), and one other log ride that might be a little decheveled..
There is one log ride to rock drop after you crest the switchback trail, go downhill, look in the woods 50ft to your right.. Then at the start of the rock garden trail there are 2 log rides. The uppder decker, skinny to 2.5+ foot drop, or the hard on or now stabbin cabbin.. The swamp thing and standing stone have been wrecked, maybe because the swamp is a sensative area?? Decided to play it cool and leave them out of play..
Again, nothing is built with foreign materials, all dead trees, no nails (shorter than 8" anyywa)..
Mud for sure, wont see me there till fall..
Thanks for the info, I was wondering why I couldn't find any of the bigger stunts that I saw in pictures. I have definitely found the cedar 166 and a few other smaller bridges and things. Tyler Mill seems like the place to go if you want to get dirty. I love the mud!
OH yeah, the elevated see saw and stuff is gone.. Wasnt that great anyway. But the newer trail features are all natural, no nails, no foriegn materials, less likely that anyone cares about them being there.. There is a nice newish Log Ride see saw on the FWO trail.. Its pretty cool..
The stunts you saw on bikerag are no longer there. The town took them down a few years ago. They were near double drops and where alot of fun.
JimWal - Tell me which one your looking for, I can tell you if it still exists.. Couple log rides have fallen victim to semi removal.. Did you find the long one - 190 ft long one.. We call it cedar 166..
PS - Nothing new, latest addition was FWO trail, Front wheel only...
PM
Tyler Mill has a bunch of log rides but no big stunts, unless something has popped up in the last couple months.
On bikerag there are a bunch of pics of some pretty good looking stunts at Tyler Mill. I found a few of the skinnies and a couple of small bridges. Does anyone know where the bigger stunts are as seen in those pics?
There is a drop at TM that is borderline 6 foot I would say. I will PM you.
the drop?. ok so it is rumored there is a six foot drop somewhere in tyler mill. i rode all over the place looking for it, to no avail. does anyone know where this fabled drop is? but all and all the mill is a rad spot for a quiky ride
I heard these were up. Any idea who built them?
Tyler mills new skinnies. There is alot of nice single track but can be muddy it's very low in areas so time your ride acordingly. There are several new skinnies built only about two feet off the ground. there are a couple that are fun to ride but most prove to be difficut to immpossible even for an experienced rider so dont expect to go and ride them through you'll be let down. the transitions are difficult and there is alot of movement in the boards but it should improve bike handling skills.. if you park at the soccer fields youll find the skinnys, if you park in Tylers mill by the wooden bridge take the trail inbetween the gaurd rails BEFORE the bridge on the right and you'll bump into the bottom of the trail with the skinnys
a.k.a. Dooley's Run. Thats it really. Thought i would mention that for posterities sake.
Interesting place. Tyler Mill is a nifty place - there are a couple of segments of trail here that are amazingly twisty - you can be a good 100 yards in front of someone in these areas and pass within 15 feet of each other. The trails just twist and turn into themselves. It's quite fun - i can't help but grin when riding through here.
I am sure this was an unlikely event, but my car was broken into by herione addicts a few summers ago here and things were stolen. They were caught months later but my rear window hasn't worked the same since. Usually the parking area (Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park) is active with the pitter-patter of soccer, baseball and gardener type peoples so its usually pretty secure. I am just angry.
