G-Remfs Review
Upper Paugussett, which is home to the Upper Gussy Trail and Al's Trail has a mixed bag of everything. 880 acres of prime CT woodlands and if you were to hit all the trails you could easily get a 10 to 12 mile ride.
Sections of Al's Trail, aka Newtown Trailway, aka the Lillinohnah Trail, are rideable to a degree but include major hike-a-bike situations (East Side). The northern section of the trail is much more rideable but still has some amazing rock gardens and extremely technical. Granted both sections are Blue Trail, so ride them carefully if you know what I mean.
Cutting through the interior of the State Forest is the Polly Brody Forest Road, which is essentially dual track, but a good warm up for the other trails.
A recent addition is the Upper Gussy Trail built by New England Mountain Biking Association and Newtown Bridle Lands Assocation. It is a multi-use trail, meaning open for bikes and horses, but mountain bikers are the primary users. Look for many fun obstacles to ride, roll and drop. Armored stream crossings and a flowy, fast moving 2.4 mile trail.

Upper Paugussett State Forest
Rode there last week, the trail acessed from echo valley rd, led us toward the lake, where there was some major hike a bike. (up a cliff). and the rest of the way around the waters edge was hike a bike-ish. We arrived late and just kept following the light blue blazed trail. We didnt see many other trail options that were blazed, i know there is more than that trail here. As gremf has shown in some pics ect. I just havent found it yet. also the light blue trail ends up spitting you out near another entrance near a larger parking area closer to the water. we had to ride up the road about a mile or two to get back to echo valley rd.
Just a noob to this area perspective.
I would like to explore some more but usually dont have the time. Probably need a guided tour to see the best of it, the lillanoah trail was not too fun with all the hike a bike.
