Nathan Clouds Review

** IMPORTANT **
Access to Ninham is a little shifty - you are legally allowed to ride only on DEC land. There are also trails that lead onto surrounding private land So please obey posted signs!

However, biking here is allowed, though you might need to apply for a free permit from the NY DEC - which can be found at their website here:

http://www.nyc.gov/html/dep/watershed/html/wsrecreation.html#application

This is somewhat disputed. They will send you a card and parking permit. One or the other might be handy, especially if you park on the Gypsy Road lot (?).

But again, please respect the land of private owners and water property land, use common sense when riding here. It would be a horrible shame to lose access to any of these trails.

Otherwise...

Ninham has got it going on.

I am sure this description will be revised, but our initial ride started out really disappointing - we rode wide open equestrian trails for probably a good hour and ended up at the 4H Camp. Not exactly thrilling. We just rode the road back to the lot and started over.

This time though, sticking to the age old tried and true mountain biking mantra: "the good stuff is always up that giant hill over there" payed off big time. So yeah, we did a horrible climb and found all sorts of nice rocky, rooty, droppy, rolly, sweet sweet singletrack. We played around for a bit and hooked up with some local riders which gave us a little more of a tour - basically more of the same great stuff with a bunch of log rides and rollers thrown in. Just about all singletrack to boot.

For those familiar with Connecticut trails, Ninham might be best described as the bastard child of Nepaug and Trumbull.

The place is awesome. If you like rocky technical riding with drops and rollers everywhere, Ninham is the place for you.

Have been here two times and tonight will be my third. This place has it all. From monster drops to a ton of log rides, there is something for everyone. I have only been in the sport for almost three years now with my new hip, so I am not one of those sickos launching off the five footer. There is always an easier way around the big nasty which makes this place so appealing. I have only seen about 25% of the one side, but should get more tonight with some locals. This will test your legs & lungs, be prepared!

rode Ninham today 10/22 with pleasure. We opted to leave the road climb to the tower for another day. (it's past the parking lot down the road and then on your left. the climb is tough but doable and I have spent an entire afternoon on that side) Amazing riding that left me wanting more. Really nice single track. Since it is October it was a bit of challenge to follow the trail, but worth it. Hunter's were walking around with their shot guns looking for "rabbit" why the hell are you hunting rabbit anyway? sounds silly. hucking yourself off a 4 foot rock seems like a much better way to get a thrill. go here it is one of the best in the area.
