New Rider

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to Crankfire. I think this is a very good website. My hats off to the owner who I believe is Nathan, nice job.

I'm new to MB riding or at least what MB riding is today. The doctor told me to lose weight to get the BP down. I hate walking and can't run so I bought and started riding a Trex 3700 with disc brakes back in January. And I'm having a blast. I should've done this along time ago.

My wife and I moved out to Colchester 10 years ago. One thing I noticed that this area had a lot of trails and dirt fire roads. I always wanted to explore these thoroughfares like I used to do when I was a kid before getting the drivers license.

When I was a kid my friends and I would modify bikes to dirt riding and trail riding. We were fortunate enough to have discovered a bicycle junk yard on town property and would raid it periodically for bike parts and modify and make bike for riding. So there's some experience with the woods but that is going back to the early 70s.

Once the drivers license came to being bike riding essentially vanished from my life. Occasionally, I'd get on the road bike but that never really tickled my fancy and the fear of getting hit by a car was always on my mind.

Anyway, here in Colchester we have all sorts of trails and wooded areas with dirt fire roads and paths. I have explored about 1% so far. I've been concentrating on easy stuff on a repeated basis to get stamina and overall strength back. I've actually lost about 10lbs so far too.

I have posted here to the website twice before realizing that there was an intro section here. I've inquired about how to improve my hill climbing and had a GPS question as some will notice. The responses have been great.

So with that my name is Bob. I live in Colchester and hope to run into some of you someday.

I belong to a web forum for another interest that I have and it is customary that a new person who introduces themselves has to provide a joke, so here goes. Hopefully, we can start a trend.

A few old couples used to get together to talk about life and to have a good time. One day one of the men, Harry, started talking about this fantastic restaurant he went to the other night with his wife. “Really?”, one of the men said, what’s it called? After thinking for a few seconds the Harry said, “what are those good smelling flowers called again?” “Do you mean a rose? the first man questioned. “Yes that’s it,” he exclaimed. Looking over at his wife he said, “Rose what’s that restaurant we went to the other night?”

Welcome aboard bob. Being new to the sport can be a bit overwhelming so you found the right place. This site is a wealth of technical knowledge and sarcasm.
